Foundation Rant

Roman philosopher Plautus once quipped, “A woman without paint is like food without salt.” So what does that mean? That woman was just meant to wear makeup. Duh! It's not a must but just like food tastes better with salt you know that we look better with makeup on. Every woman should have access to makeup. From eyeshadow to nail polish, whether they prefer a BB cream or foundation. It has been known for centuries that women are supposed to wear makeup that's we slay even harder when it's on. Come out the house feeling like a brand new women when your contour on fleek. Days just look brighter when the sun hits my highlight just right. So today I want to talk about foundation. This is not about how to match it or anything. I might do one later on but I really want to get this off my mind. If you are wondering yes this is about to be my first rant. Foundation is my biggest pet peeve like there might be a couple rants like this I'm sorry if I get repetitive. Anyway, finding my foundation shade is very difficult, some of you may not understand. So for women of color, you know how hard it is to find an affordable foundation. It really is hard my current foundation is $40 something. Let me explain why it's so hard for me to find a foundation. I use to not have the money for makeup over $10-$15. There aren't many drugstore brands that offer a foundation in darker shades. I mean there's very few. Some companies don't even make one dark shade. Anyway I've been color matched many times, I always get foundations that are close to my shade but not shade. I use to hate that because I felt like it would have been just better to just not wear any makeup. I didn't realize that at the time but I realize that now. I look back at my old photos and stuff and I feel like I was just looking ugly, I am low-key mad I wasted my money. If they don't have your exact shade don't buy it! Just keep on moving girl like trust me, you are just embarrassing yourself. Please learn from my mistakes. Okay anyway, I wanna talk about four brands. Why these four because they are the most recent ones that I have tried and so I still remember the names and things like that. It is three foundations and one BB Cream all different brands. I know you're wondering why the BB Cream when the main focus is foundation it's because it kinda ties into the color issue. Okay, so my first brand is one that I use to work for, Boots No7. In the United States, it's just known as No7 just in case you were wondering. Anyway, they use to have this machine that would automatically color match you. The machine tells you what blush, lipstick, foundation, etc. Anyway, I have colored myself with it and other people have done the same on me. I was matched with the shade Chestnut. In my store, it was the only black shade but I was told there were two other options. The shade was my color however it had a green undertone. Let me explain this unless you have redness in the face you do not want anything with a green undertone. I don't know too many black people that have redness in their face. It was a good product if you're of a lighter skin color I would recommend it because I love the way it felt on my face I never could tell it was on. It would start off as looking like my color and then once it settled you could tell that was not for me. I tried putting it in many different ways thinking maybe it was reacting badly to my contour kit at first. Even when I didn't use the contour kit it was bad. I even had tried the product during training and I feel like my makeup than was fine. I might have just got a wrong bottle or something but that bottle was $20 who was fixing to buy another one? Not me! Should have gotten it right when I bought it the first time. I want to go ahead and move on to Clinique. This is a brand that many people know all around the world. Let me start off my saying that I was attracted to this brand for many reasons. The main being that my boyfriend was worried about what would happen to my skin if I was wearing foundation every day. Clinique is good for your skin, it is fragrance-free, hypoallergenic and ophthalmologist tested. I love the formula of this product, I have dry skin and this was the best thing for it. I was using the shade Amber, I think I needed to be in Clove (I didn't like the name) but the store I went to was out when I went to try another shade of foundation. I was color matched by some white girl the first time, she did look like she couldn't tell which shade was best. I think I might have been in-between both shades it was fall and I think that I was transitioning from my summer shade to my winter and she figured I was going to settle into that lighter shade but I never did. I am not blaming her in any way shape or form. I am just pointing out that I was color matched and even that was too light. That and it had a red undertone and my undertone is a yellow goldish color. I look best in gold. Out of all of the foundations, I am about to mention in this blog post I would have to say that Clinique was my favorite so far. I love the way it feels, you don't feel in on your skin and it's good for you. My last one from the foundation section is Becca in the shade Deep Bronze. This brand is my shade 100% the undertone as well. They nailed it color wise. I don't know what their color section is but I do know that they did well with getting my color right. I love the name they gave my color, it's not offensive in anyway. This is not my favorite brand, however, when this bottle is gone I am going to look for something else. The foundation feels heavy on my skin, I hate that. I don't want to be able to feel the fact that there's something on my face. It is getting hot and my skin gets drier which might be the reason as to why it feels heavy to me (it was fine when I first got it). Don't think I am dogging out Becca now, up until it got hot this was my favorite foundation I might just need something that's lighter. Besides it being heavy the brand is also kinda expensive. The bottle I have right now was $42. Now I don't make money from blogs like how some are. That $42 hit my pockets hard! I hated having to spend that much but Clinique is the cheapest non-drugstore brand and they didn't have what I needed. For the fall/winter, I do think that Becca could possibly be worth its money. I did like it up until recently but for that kind of money, it better be good right? Who got cash that can just be wasting money? Not yo girl over here I can tell you that much. You should have seen my boyfriends face when he saw how much I had spent. (Girl I think he was low-key pissed). This was my little rant about foundation products. I am going to continue to try more and will write reviews on it in the future. To me, it needed to be said. I just needed that off my chest. Thank you for reading, look at my past post if you haven't read them yet. Comment and Share this post, I would love to hear not only what you have to say but everyone else as well. If my blog had followers I do feel like this would be a hot topic discussion. This might have to be something I post again when I have more followers. Thanks and have a good day!
