Interview time!

So I have been on Quora a lot lately. It's this site when you can ask questions and people who consider themselves knowledgeable in that subject will answer the questions for you. On Quora when I am scrolling down I have been seeing a lot of questions about careers and business opportunities. I guess now that tax season is over people need money again! Trust me I know the feeling I need cash too. The struggle is real girl, okay? Let me tell you. I have an interview coming up myself. How about a little outfit advice? I have been on job interviews where it's a competition. The good jobs are about appearance just as much as they are qualifications. You can have a Yale degree and that still isn't going to get you a job if you show up in your pj's. They need to physically see that you're serious about this position. The key is to have a professional appearance. What does that mean? Your appearance needs to be polished, appropriate, and approachable. Although black is the color of choice for most, don't be afraid to add a pop of color. Remember you want to give a warm approachable feeling. Your personal appearance is the first impression that people get from you. It helps to add I something that's of your signature style. My thing is red lipstick. I am always wearing it, it is my favorite accessory. Not only can this sometimes give you a calming formalist feeling but it can also be something that helps people remember you. Let's start with the outfit itself. Do you have to wear a suit? No! I don't even own one, but you still need to look nice. I would suggest bottoms wise either slacks or a pencil skirt. Why? I am so glad that you asked! Slacks are worn by those I the business world as everyday work clothes. It shows that you know what the dress code is when it comes to being professional. This is only going to be an added plus in your favor. Why a pencil skirt? It gives the same professional appearance as the slacks but it gives a fashionable touch to it. Now since the pencil skirt is tight worn a normal or loose fitted top. Wearing something tight on your top and bottom sends a different message than what you want for an interview. Whether it's tight or loose you want your top to be a blouse or something else that's nice. If you're going to wear a tank-top put a dressy cover up on over it. Anything low cut put a tank-top underneath it. The last thing we need is the girls being out. Again, this about the message you are sending with your outfit. Now that we know what we are going to wear it's time for makeup. Keep your look simple. We are not going in with a smokey eye. Whatever you do step away from the glitter, there's nothing wrong with a little highlight but we are not going with full on glitter. Those who are going to with a bold lip, let's be careful with the highlight. I know that it's very fashionable to have a highlight on the inner corner of the eye but there's a chance that it might be too much. Sticking with neutral colors is your best bet. Maybe something matte for your lips if you're going bold. Let us move on forward shall we? So jewelry it is super important to not go overboard. You don't want something super flashy no matter how cute it is. Dangles, a simple necklace, maybe a bracelet or a watch and you're good. If you have on bracelets and watches be careful with this. Don't add too much, they can make a lot of noise which can be a distraction. You don't want the only thing the interviewer remembers is the noise your bangles made. Keep it simple, there's nothing wrong with a bracelet, less is more. Okay now I don't know about you but I don't leave the house without some kind of fragrance on. That's damn near a sin to me. Let's keep it light. When you put on perfume you want to spray it in very strategic areas. My suggestion would be one on each side of the neck, the pulse on your arms, and the back of the knees. The reason being is that the pulse, every time it pulses it will send out the fragrance. You can smell good and not over do it. Don't ask me how or why this works but it works, it just does for some reason. Just like the way your body smells is important so is your breath. Obviously, you

should be brushing your teeth every day but those who use a whitening paste have a better smile. (Cosmetically anyway). Due to their whiter teeth. A simile can be any girl's best accessory, essentially if you're like me and your lips is your best feature. You want to due to a bold lip with your white smile, this really helps. Also just as a little tip, if you eat before your interview or if your just dehydrated eat a mint or some gum. When you're dehydrated it can cause your breath to stink, same goes for certain foods that you eat. What's the point of a pretty smile if they pinch their nose every time you do it? Body language is the most important thing for an interview. Say it with me “I will not cross my arms” it say's that you're not approachable and it wrinkles clothes. Again repeat after me “I will not wince, squint, furrow my brows, or avoid eye contact.” After spending all that time on your makeup are you really about to ruin it? Not only that but not employer is going to hire someone who can't even look them in the eye. You just look like a liar. You are done, it's over with. Unless they have no other option. Before I sign off I am going to give you some kind of advice. There are three things you need to remember: Be Friendly, Be Confident, and Keep your cool. This can make or break your chances at the job. Share and comment your thoughts. Thanks for reading as always. I hope this helps out in even the slightest way.
